Mülders looks eastwards for new challenge
Jamilon Mülders, the former head coach of the German women’s hockey team, is all set to take up a new post as head coach of the China women’s national team.
Mülders, who has been a coach with the German Hockey Board (DHB) for 26 years, a national coach for 10 years and head coach to the women’s team for five years, says he “owes it to his family”, to take up this challenge.
“This was not an easy decision to make, but the offer from China is so lucrative and sustainable that I have decided to make the change.”
Quoted on the EuroHockey website, DHB Director, Heino Knuf, said: “If he (Jamilon) gets the chance to make a name for himself in the international market, we cannot and will not stand in his way.
“He has achieved so much for the Association; the bronze medal in Rio with a very young team; the World Cup qualification for London 2018; and has also brought so many good ideas into our system. We say goodbye with a tear in our eye and best wishes for his career.”
For his part, Jamilon said: “Germany will be good in Tokyo. I know that 100 per cent. And I will sit in the stand and be so very happy for them if they win a medal.”
The 48-year-old coach takes up his new appointment in October. China has also qualified for the 2018 World Cup in London and will be participating in the much-anticipated Hockey Pro League from 2019.
